Learning at SBC - Teaching & Learning - Middle Childhood - Year 6

By Year 6 students are learning to draw on a wider range of sources of information in answering questions and considering their place in the world. This ability allows students to focus on heritage from early civilisation through to current life in Australia. They explore various famous ancient civilisations, including Ancient Egypt, Ancient China and the Australian Aborigines, just to name a few, before leading into Australian history, it’s discovery and settlement. Students learn about the Industrial Revolution, American War of Independence and British history of the 1700s, and discussed how all these events lead to the settlement of Australia.

Year Six Students go on an excursion to Fremantle Prison and they learn about the Australian Government, covering topics from democracy and monarchy to the Australian Constitution.

Students begin to explore a wider range of technologies and forms of communication and representation, and experiment with them to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of different ways of solving problems.
