Learning at SBC - Teaching & Learning - Middle Childhood - Year 4

In Year Four the students are challenged to be self-disciplined in their personal and academic lives. They are encouraged to identify their strengths and weaknesses and always to challenge their weaknesses and take pride in their achievements.

Across all the learning areas is a strong emphasis on environmental issues and the need to ‘tread lightly’ on this planet. Much emphasis is also placed on creating a healthy learning environment combined with a healthy life style.

Students may fly planes, ‘gyropractors’ and ‘whiligigs’, construct bridges, measure rainfall and create mini water cycles. They design and redesign their creations to solve problems. Some work, while others don’t, but, learning takes place.

One of the highlights of Year Four is receiving their First Holy Communion. The Religious Education program prepares students to be faith filled individuals, eager to share and live their knowledge and love of the Gospel values. A day’s retreat at the Schoenstatt Shrine is a fitting conclusion to preparation activities.

Incursions and excursions teach children many new things and reinforce the old. In the past students have been excited by visiting published writers, circus performers and visits to the Mundaring Weir and the zoo.
