As a Catholic school founded by the Sisters of Mercy we cherish our heritage of the Catholic faith lived with a Mercy spirit. This is evident by the importance we attach to Religious Education classes, which provide opportunities for reflection and discussion of life’s big issues and provide Christian insights passed on to us through the Catholic Church.
The appreciation of the Love of God is the central hub of our learning experiences and all our studies radiate out from this belief. As members of St Brigid’s College, Staff and students reflect their commitment to this approach by living the seven values and mission of our College in all areas of school life.
The curriculum for Religious Education is designed by the Catholic Education Office of Western Australia and is taught in all classes in a developmental manner. Students complete work that assists them to gain an understanding of important teachings of the Catholic Church, the value of a Christian life and the consequences that flow from this in their relationship with others.
Topics discussed include Catholic teachings on the Value of Life; Creation as a gift from God; Sacraments lived in the Church and Community; Catholic Christian moral values lived through the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes.
In addition to the study of Religious Education all classes participate in daily prayer and liturgical celebrations throughout the year. Our program of “Mercy in Action – Making a Difference” challenges all students to contribute in meaningful and practical ways to make their families, school, community and the wider world a better place in which to live.
